Fri 8 Jun 07 - Equipment Update
Suspension..
Fox Vanilla 125 ( lowered to 80mm), the fork works wonders especially during the long desent( i'm talking about 40 km on rough , loose gravel ,rocky mountain roads between 35 to 45kph) and its soaks up almost everything that comes its way.
Brakes..
Avid BB7 Mech disc for the front and Avid sd7 V brake for the rear (both front and rear equipped with Koolstop pads), as for the front mech disc it, performs very very well. Good braking power, modulation is fantastic, no worries of losing braking power during long descents.
Drivetrain..
Rohloff Speedhub 14speed, I highly recommended to all who intend to go for long tours , easy to do maintenance and cleaning of your drivetrain. So far in my tour with very dusty road conditions it performs very well, you won't believe its so easy to look after it (as my other tour partners need to clean and do some minor adjustment to their deraillaur system every now and then).

30/05/07, Feilaisi to Yanjing 100km
Another 30km of down hill and 63km of rolling hills, last 7km uphill.
Started 830 in the morning road turns bad after 17km of descent ( off road ,loose rocks every were, very difficult to ride even its downhill) , met a french guy touring alone on bike coming from Tibet. Road were really bad we arrived Yenjin at 2130.
Next day we will cross over to Tibet, Mangkam, after checking with the locals, found out that way to Mangkam will be even harder. Lots of landslide and rocks are still falling down along the way, too dangerous for cyclists. So we decided to catch a bus to Mangkam. :(
